The BRAVO ALPHA Alphanumeric Pager
TURNING YOUR PAGER ON AND OFF
A three-position button is located on the side of the pager. The bottom position is the “off” position. The middle position is the “vibrate/silent” position. The top position is the “audible beep” position.
To turn the pager on, the button is slid to the middle (silent) or top (audible) position, depending on the type of alert you choose to have at the time. The pager tests itself, and the screen will go blank within six seconds, except for a symbol in the corner signifying the alert mode (a speaker symbol for audible mode, a speaker symbol with a line through it for silent mode).
To turn the pager off, slide the button to the bottom position. The screen goes blank. It is a good idea to turn the pager off when it is not needed, as this will greatly improve battery life.
RECEIVING A PAGE
On the front of the pager, there are three black buttons. One has a “p” symbol on it (READ button), one has a “t” symbol on it (ADVANCE button), and the last one has no symbol on it “n” (FUNCTION button).
When a page is received by the pager, it will alert you with either a 12 second audible beep (if in audible mode), or a 12 second vibration (if in silent mode). Press either the READ button (p) or the ADVANCE button (t) to stop the alert. Unread messages are indicated by flashing symbols. The full arrow designates the active memory slot. Once the alert has been stopped, press the READ button (p) to display the message that is in the memory slot with the full arrow. The pager will automatically scroll through the message. To manually scroll through the message, press the READ button (p) again to hold each screen, and again to advance to the next screen of the message.
When additional messages are received, the flashing full arrow will point to the memory slot of the most recent message. You can advance to the other memory slots by pressing the ADVANCE button (t).
While reading a message, you can preview the first line of the additional messages in memory by pressing the ADVANCE button (t). The first line of each message will be preceded by a number and a colon (1: to 16) to indicate the memory slot for that message.
Messages will time out and the screen will blank after six seconds. If the screen is blanked, press any button to display the status screen.
FUNCTION BUTTON
To lock or Unlock a Message: Press the FUNCTION button (n). LOCK will appear on the screen. If the message has already been locked, UNLOCK will appear. Press the ADVANCE button (t) to lock or unlock the desired message. A lock symbol will replace the full arrow to show that the message has been locked.
To delete a Message: Press the FUNCTION button (n) twice. DELETE will appear on the screen. NOTE: If the message has been locked, DELETE will not appear; a locked message cannot be deleted. You will be prompted to unlock the message first. Press the ADVANCE button (t) to delete the desired message.
BACKLIGHT
The BRAVO pager comes equipped with a backlight for reading in dim light conditions. To activate this light, press the OFF/SILENT/AUDIBLE button (located on the side of the pager) in, towards the pager. The light will illuminate. To turn the light off, press the button again.
ALERT LAMP
There is a small, red light located between the READ button (p) and the ADVANCE button (t). The alert lamp provides a visual indication when a message is received.
REMINDER ALERT
When a message is received into the pager, but not read, the pager will emit a single chirp (audible mode) or a two second vibrate (in silent mode) every two minutes as a reminder that there is an unread message in the pager. This reminder alert will stop once the message has been read.
FEATURES
- Duplicate Message Detection: The BRAVO pager will compare every incoming message to the messages already stored in memory to detect duplication. If duplication is detected, a duplicate message indicator will appear prior to the message to indicate that the message has been received more than once.
- Out of Range: When the pager has been out of range of a transmitter continuously for approximately six minutes, the display will show an OUT OF RANGE message (a row of symbols that look like transmitting towers). As soon as the pager is back in range, the display will return to the standard standby screen.
- Memory Full: If there are 16 messages, or more than 1984 characters, contained in memory, and incoming message could cause the earliest unlocked message to be dropped from the pager’s memory. A “MEMORY FULL” warning on the display alerts you that a message may be pushed out of memory by a new incoming page.
- Tone Only: The message TONE ONLY is displayed when a message is received without data. It is usually an indication of a call to the pager where the caller simply hangs up without sending data.
- Low Battery: When the pager is turned on and detects a low battery, a four-second LOW BATTERY alert and display will occur after the power-up alert. If the pager is already on when it detects a low battery, it will audibly alert and display the LOW BATTERY screen.
