Clients Help Northern Communications
Congratulate Staff For
CAM-X Award of Excellence

The Canadian Association of Message Exchanges (CAM-X) has once again honoured Northern Communications with its award of excellence for outstanding service. This award program is a way for us to objectively evaluate our performance against a strict set of predetermined service standards. At the beginning of the year we submit the names and numbers of 10 of our answering service clients to the awards committee. The committee hires people to make calls to these clients’ businesses at random times throughout the year. These calls are of course received by our answering service operators. All calls are recorded by the caller and turned into the committee to be judged. Remember that the operators do not know which accounts have been turned in for these test calls, nor are they aware during any of the calls that they are in fact a “fake” call for judging purposes. The recordings are used to score each call based on criteria such as: number of rings before the call is answered; tone and friendliness of the operator; did the operator read the message back to the caller for accuracy; did the operator close the call off properly by assuring the caller the message would be delivered ... Having scored over 80% on all calls, we were once again honoured with an award of excellence.

This year we invited you, the clients to drop by for a wine & cheese to help us congratulate our operators. This is their award and we are very proud of them. You came out in force to meet the staff and share in the celebration of their award. On behalf of the owners, management, and the operators themselves, we thank you for your show of support. Special thanks has to go to the Timmins client base who came out in full force!

Paging All Cattle “Your Dinner is Ready”

Here is an “udderly” ingenious idea. A Texas rancher has gone high tech and hooked up 40 of his cows with pagers. He has trained these cows to associate the beeping with eating. He did this by setting the pagers off and feeding them molasses treats. Now, when they get paged, they head back to the barn (where they usually eat) and the rest of the herd follows. His ranch has 7,800 acres, so not having to go out and round them up is a real benefit. It is not uncommon for them to be more than 3.5 kilometres away when they get paged for dinner!
